Undergraduate students from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki visited Oxyrynghos Hellas S.A. to explore sturgeon production, sustainable aquaculture practices, and modern fish farming technology.
Undergraduate students from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki participated in an educational field trip to Oxyrynghos Hellas S.A. in Kefalari, Drama, as part of the course Aquaculture & Fish Breeding.
The visit provided students with a valuable hands-on learning experience in sustainable aquaculture, natural spring-water systems, biosecurity, and modern fish farming technology.
Students explored the sturgeon production cycle, including hatchery and larval rearing, grow-out raceways, ultrasound sexing, maturation, and caviar production.
The visit strengthened students’ understanding of how applied aquaculture practices can support both production and conservation knowledge for valuable and endangered sturgeon species.
Photos from the field visit show students observing hatchery systems, sturgeon juveniles, grow-out facilities, and group learning activities at the aquaculture site.
The field trip offered students direct exposure to practical aquaculture methods and strengthened their understanding of sustainable fish breeding, sturgeon biology, and modern production systems.
