Researchers, public authorities, environmental organisations, fishers and young people came together in Odesa and Kryzhanivka to exchange knowledge and strengthen cooperation for sturgeon conservation in the Black Sea Basin.
The National Awareness-Raising Event “Building a Transnational Network for Sturgeon Conservation in the Black Sea Basin” took place in Odesa and Kryzhanivka, Ukraine, on 25–26 September 2026 within the SturNet project (BSB00172).
The first day brought together researchers, public authorities, environmental organisations and other stakeholders to exchange knowledge and discuss approaches to sturgeon conservation and the sustainable management of the Black Sea Basin.
On the second day, participants met with the Kryzhanivka Fishers’ Association and local stakeholders to discuss community initiatives and the role of fishers in protecting aquatic biodiversity. A children’s drawing competition on sturgeon and biodiversity highlighted the importance of environmental education and engaging young people in conservation.
The event strengthened dialogue between science, local communities and public institutions, supporting the SturNet project’s goal of building cooperation for sturgeon conservation across the Black Sea Basin.
