Description: This scientific article presents a comprehensive analysis of the species composition and population dynamics of anadromous and freshwater fish in the Lower Dnipro system throughout the 20th century, based on historical data from 1931 to 2007. It documents a catastrophic decline in native fish populations, with only 21 of the original 47 species persisting, and a fishery collapse to less than 7% of historical levels. In contrast, the Lower Danube retained greater biodiversity and higher catch rates. The study includes quantitative assessments, species lists, protection status, and implications for conservation and fisheries management.
